Minister's son to be charged with drug abuse, says Muhyiddin
The son of a minister who was arrested and tested positive for drug abuse will be charged in court soon, according to Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said police have submitted the investigation paper on the case to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
"Instructions have been received (by the police) that (the suspect) will be charged in court soon," he said in a parliamentary reply dated April 4, in response to Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (BN-Lenggong).
Muhyiddin did not name his colleague, however.
Shamsul wanted the government to clearly state the standard operating procedure for someone who tests positive for drug abuse and the time needed to obtain the pathology report.
"Why does it take so long for the urine test done on the son of the minister (to be produced)?" he had asked.
As Muhyiddin explained, the police have their own SOP and specific administrative orders when obtaining urine samples from individuals suspected of consuming illegal drugs.
These include the Permanent Order of the Inspector-General of Police (PTPKN), the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and other relevant legislation, he said.
The minister added that the pathology report on the minister's son has been received by the police.
On Jan 5, the son of Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu was detained by police after testing positive for marijuana after a police raid at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
Mohamad later said his 31-year-old son would be subject to the country's legal process.
