With four days left to polls, PBS urges cops to return banner
SANDAKAN POLLS | PBS has urged the police to return a confiscated banner ahead of polling for the Sandakan by-election this Saturday.
The party's deputy president Yee Moh Chai said in a statement today that it has not received any feedback from the police since the banner was confiscated on May 2.
"I hope the police can speed up their investigation and decide whether we (PBS) have committed any offence.
"If not, please return our banner, because it will be a piece of rubbish if you return it to us after the polling (this Saturday)," he said.
As Yee stated, police should either charge his party with an offence or return the banner.
On May 2, a large billboard was erected by PBS at Batu 3, Jalan Utara as part of its by-election campaign.
The banner cited an Astro AEC news report on DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, which has since been rescinded.
Attempts to figure out who removed the banner have been unsuccessful, as both the police and EC are passing the buck on who gave the order.
Previously, Yee informed the press that police had removed the banner under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace.
PBS has since replaced the banner with a truncated version.
This morning, a DAP billboard appeared alongside it, pointing out that the news report cited had been retracted.
