Najib toys with selfie camera in the dock
NAJIB TRIAL | Najib Abdul Razak was spotted toying with his selfie camera while in the dock in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today.
This happened when his defence counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was cross-examining Maybank officer Halijah Abdul Wahab in Najib's trial on the misappropriation of funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Reporters sitting near the former prime minister could see that the selfie camera was turned on and his face appeared on screen.
From Malaysiakini's vantage point in the public gallery, it was not clear if he had taken a photo or made a recording.
According to a report by The Edge, Najib took selfie photos with a frown on his face.
A report by Utusan Malaysia said Najib pinched the screen to zoom in on the lawyers and the bench before taking a photograph.
This could court trouble for Najib because any unauthorised visual or audio recording of court proceedings is strictly prohibited.
This is not the first time Najib has flouted court rules.
On March 15, Najib slipped out of court for a toilet break without seeking the court's permission during his lawyer's oral submission.
On March 18, Najib appeared to have dozed off in court and had to be woken up by a police personnel.
Najib denied that he fell asleep and said he was merely "closing my eyes".
On Apr 22, Najib's former special officer Isham Jalil caused an uproar when he uploaded video clips of the court proceedings on his Facebook page.
Isham is now under police investigation.
