Constitution of Ibrahim Ali's Putra mirrors that of 'old Umno'
The constitution of Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) is based on that of the "old" Umno founded in 1946, according to Ibrahim Ali.
The Putra pro-tem president said this is because the original Umno constitution matched the goals of his party.
"About 95 percent of Putra's constitution is based on that of the Umno established in 1946.
"The old Umno constitution was very practical and suits the reason Putra was formed," Ibrahim told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Yesterday, the Registrar of Societies (ROS) approved the registration of Putra, which is supposed to serve as an alternative to Malays post-GE14, and champion the rights of the Malays and Islam.
At the press conference, Ibrahim also thanked Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and ROS director-general Masyati Abang Ibrahim for approving the registration of the party.
He added that Putra membership forms will be distributed from May 22.
"Putra's membership is open to all bumiputera, and after the forms are sent out, divisions will be set up according to division voting centres," he noted.
According to Ibrahim, Putra currently has 15 committee members, including former Umno leader Khalid Yunus, who serves as his deputy.
