Cops probing 'Datuk Seri' over riot at KL bar
A 31-year old "Datuk Seri' has surrendered to the police to facilitate investigations into a riot at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur, on May 3.
The same "Datuk Seri" was involved in a high-profile assault case in front of a temple in the capital several years ago.
Kuala Lumpur CID (intelligence and operations) chief Alzafny Ahmad said the individual surrendered himself at the Brickfields police headquarters at 3pm yesterday.
"He was accompanied by his lawyer. Police recorded his statement before releasing him under police bail," Alzafny said in a statement.
On May 3, a group of men armed with sticks barged into the Jalan Klang Lama outlet and damaged over RM200,000 worth of property.
Following the incident, police hauled in 14 men, aged between 26 and 27.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was spurred by jealousy over a woman.
Subsequently, police identified a further four individuals, including the "Datuk Seri", involved in the attack.
It was reported last week that a lawyer representing the "Datuk Seri" approached Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim to discuss the matter.
Mazlan maintained, however, that the "Datuk Seri" must turn himself in or face arrest.
According to Alzafny, police are still investigating the incident, and are waiting for another individual to return from abroad to have his statement recorded.
