Abandon 'Malaysian Malaysia' concept, Umno veep tells DAP
DAP should stop pursuing its Malaysian Malaysia concept which seeks equal rights for all, as it is not possible to be implemented in Malaysia, said Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
In a statement today, the Umno vice president said it is time the country worked towards achieving "good Malaysian citizenry" instead.
Khaled was responding to a write up by Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi, in Malay daily Berita Harian recently, that called for the media to promote the Malaysian Malaysia concept towards creating a "New Malaysia" narrative.
"However, she failed to mention how the Malaysian Malaysia concept can be realised.
"The fact is, it is impossible to implement. It is political rhetoric only worth preaching about. However, Malaysia, from the moment she was established, has been characterised by people of different religions, races, political experience and so on," he said.
"This means, the people of this nation have never undergone a process to be assimilated as a single race. The ruling party then also realised that the different races should be maintained in their respective identities, due to their thinking and characteristics," he added.
Thus, the diversity should be embraced, instead of being replaced by the Malaysian Malaysia narrative which allegedly seeks to deny the special rights of the bumiputera as stipulated in the Federal Constitution, he further claimed.
"It is time for us to detail 'good Malaysian citizenry' attributes, rather than discussing the Malaysian Malaysia concept, which is impossible to implement. This especially when the unity in the country are being increasingly eroded under Pakatan Harapan rule.
"Just see how Sabah and Sarawak are playing up extreme rhetoric concerning their respective states.
"Will we see certain quarters championing the 'independence for Sarawak' and 'Sabah for Sabahans' sentiment without having Harapan take any concrete steps to address it?"
