PKR Youth says it was not involved in organising Ramadan event

This article is 5 years old

PKR Youth said today the Ramadan event that prompted an apology from party president Anwar Ibrahim was organised by the PKR Youth deputy president Hilman Idham and not by the Youth wing.

PKR Youth vice-president Syed Badli Syah Syed Osman said this was discovered after they checked with the leadership of all state PKR Youth wings.

“I feel a little relieved because after checking with the PKR Youth leadership and all PKR Youth state leaders, the programme, which was said to be unsuitable for Ramadan, was not organised by us.

“Instead, the programme was organised by PKR Youth deputy Hilman Idham, who used the PKR Youth name without discussing this with the leadership, nor did he get an agreement in our meetings.

“I welcome Hilman’s willingness to take full responsibility for the mistake of the programme and I call upon all parties to stay calm and stop arguing,” Syed Badli said in a statement.

On May 26, Anwar apologised for the carnival-like PKR Youth wing event that included singing and fireworks, that was held the previous day.

However, a PKR Youth grassroots leader involved in organising the programme yesterday denied that the function was unsuitable for the holy month of Ramadan.
