IGP: Viral message about Jho Low's arrest incorrect
A viral message alleging that Jho Low had been arrested in China is incorrect, Inspector-General of Police Hamid Bador said today.
"We are working towards that end but nothing has been finalised as yet. That message is incorrect," Hamid told the media via WhatsApp today.
Earlier, a message had spread claiming that Low had been arrested by China authorities and would be brought back to Malaysia by the RMAF.
Meanwhile, a source told Malaysiakini that the fugitive businessperson's whereabouts are now known.
"We're just waiting to bring him back," the source said.
On Thursday, Hamid expressed confidence the police would be able to nab Jho Low soon.
The US Department of Justice believes at least US$4.5 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB and Low is accused of masterminding the illegal transactions which siphoned money from the state fund.
The Penang-born businessperson has been charged in both the US and Malaysia but has refused to return to Malaysia claiming that he will not get a fair trial.
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is already standing trial for 42 charges of criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and abuse of power in relation to the 1MDB scandal.
