Johor sultan to host Hari Raya meet with Bersatu chiefs tomorrow
Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar will meet with state Bersatu chiefs tomorrow.
This comes after the monarch hosted Umno leaders to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru yesterday.
The upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri meeting with Bersatu leaders tomorrow was confirmed by Johor Menteri Besar Sahruddin Jamal.
"In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, his majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has consented to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri meeting with the Johor Bersatu division chiefs on June 10 at 4pm at Istana Pasir Pelangi, Johor Bahru," he said in a statement.
Sahruddin thanked the Johor sultan and hoped the meeting will strengthen relations.
Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim's Hari Raya invitation to the opposition was described as unprecedented.
"This is the first time (being invited as a party member). This never happened even when we were in government," one source had told Malaysiakini.
Among those photographed with Sultan Ibrahim (photo) were Johor opposition chief Hasni Mohammed, former deputy ministers Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Razali Ibrahim and former Johor Bahru MP Shahrir Samad.
Sultan Ibrahim had also hosted Harapan leaders on the same day but they were part of the state exco line-up.
Harapan leaders had told Malaysiakini they weren't aware of any special invitation for them.
