Anwar meets PM, talks about Latheefa and MACC
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he met Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for about 30 minutes today.
According to Anwar, he explained to the premier the context behind his questions about the appointment of Latheefa Koya as the MACC chief commissioner.
In a post on his Facebook page, Anwar said they both agreed that graft committed during the Pakatan Harapan and BN administration can be handled more efficiently under Latheefa.
Last Friday, Anwar had urged Mahathir to clarify why the appointment of the MACC chief did not meet the process outlined in Harapan's election manifesto.
Item 14 of the manifesto promises, among others, that the appointment of the MACC chief would be subject to parliamentary scrutiny.
But as Parliamentary Select Committee on Major Public Appointments chairperson William Leong pointed out, the legislature should not interfere with executive processes to ensure separation of powers.
Meanwhile, Anwar, who heads the Parliamentary Caucus on Reform and Governance, said he informed the prime minister that Leong's committee was seeking a meeting.
Anwar said other issues discussed with Mahathir included international relations.
