Dogged by sex scandal, Azmin confident truth shall prevail
Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali continues to remain unfazed despite being implicated in a sex scandal.
The PKR deputy president is confident that the truth would prevail.
He said this when recording his appreciation for Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's support.
“Thank you for the firm support and principled stand to reject gutter politics. The truth shall prevail and the government will come out stronger to deliver on Pakatan Harapan's promises to the rakyat,” he tweeted this afternoon.
Azmin also expressed gratitude to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
“(I) welcome and appreciate the support and the view of the PAS deputy president to reject gutter politics because it is an attempt to distract people from the current situation.
“Thank you for the advice to continue to be patient in the face of slander. Insha Allah (God willing), I am still calm,” he added in a separate tweet.
Tuan Ibrahim had reportedly advised the people not be trapped with regard to the sex videos, implicating Azmin.
Apart from attempting to deflect attention, the PAS leader also did not rule out the possibility that the videos were spread due to internal conflicts within Harapan.
The opposition, namely Umno and PAS, have steered clear of the scandal after it came to light last week.
Umno has also denied having a hand in the alleged plot against Azmin.
Meanwhile, it was reported earlier that police might record a statement from Azmin either today or tomorrow regarding the videos.
Azmin has described the videos, which were spread by unknown individuals via Whatsapp, as part of a nefarious agenda to ruin his political career.
There has also been speculation that the faction aligned to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who himself had claimed to be the victim of trumped-up sex-related charges twice in the past, could be behind the leak.
However, Anwar denied that he or his supporters are responsible.
Azmin has also urged the PKR disciplinary board to investigate how the perpetrators had obtained the contact numbers of party officers to add them into the Whatsapp groups.
However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party's political bureau decided to leave the matter to the police.
