21-year-old risks lifelong disability after being shot for running red light
A 21-year-old is facing the risk of a lifelong disability after he was allegedly shot in the left hand by a traffic officer who tried to stop a motorcycle that had run a red light.
According to Utusan Online, the incident in Alor Setar, Kedah occurred around 10am when Mohamad Alif Aiman Anuar was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by his friend to their workplace at Alor Mengkudu.
They were said to have run a traffic light on Jalan Langgar near Jalan Datuk Kumbar, causing a traffic officer at the scene to pursue them.
According to the victim's mother, Mohamad Alif Aiman, who works as a plumber, he is now in critical condition at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
Hashimah Mahmood, 49, said the hospital had informed her that they would carry out a surgical procedure to remove a bullet in her son's hand tonight.
"My family and I admit that my son was guilty of escaping arrest, possibly because his friend had no driver's license."
She went on to claim that after the shooting, the police officer left to file a police report on the incident while her son remained bleeding at the scene.
"I want justice for my son who may be facing a lifelong disability," she said.
She claimed that the police officer then asked her son not to go to the hospital, but only to a clinic to seek treatment, which she found suspicious.
Hashimah pointed out that her son had no criminal record and was unarmed.
Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid confirmed that the incident took place.
