Bersatu Youth wants limelight on Saddiq, Rina, Maszlee and Faizal
Bersatu Youth wants the on new party leaders, including its chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, women's chief Rina Harun, supreme council member Maszlee Malik, and Perak chief Faizal Azumu.
“New leaders must be highlighted by Bersatu, such as Saddiq, Rina, Maszlee, and Faizal, to complete the leadership lineup,” youth information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin said in a statement today.
“This is important to ensure that Bersatu has long-term next generation leaders who remain relevant to the public."
Ulya said this while supporting calls for the top three Bersatu leaders – chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, president Muhyiddin Yassin, and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir – to not be challenged in the upcoming party elections.
“The right to contest is the party members' democratic right.
"However, at this juncture, for continuity and to strengthen the party, it is important that the trio remain in their positions,” he said.
Ulya added that their leadership was still needed to convince the public to support Bersatu as a party that fights for them, especially the Malays.
Bersatu will hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on July 20 to ensure the party polls this year runs smoothly.
The party will also discuss if the “one-member, one-vote” concept is appropriate for the election of supreme council members.
The party election is expected to be held near the end of the year.
