Cops nab another suspect in torching of Perlis mufti's car
Perlis police have arrested another man early this morning who is suspected to be involved in the torching of state mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin’s official vehicle in March.
The man, known by his alias Mee Tomoii, was apprehended in Kedah at 4am today.
The cops have successfully obtained a four-day remand for him starting today and ending on July 9.
“Following the questioning, the suspect admitted his involvement in the arson case involving the torching of the Perlis mufti’s car, along with an accomplice who has already been arrested,” read the police statement today.
The man had also tested positive for methamphetamine in a preliminary urine test.
According to the police, he also has a list of previous criminal convictions, mostly involving thefts.
He is also listed as wanted for a case under Section 380 of the Penal Code which deals with “theft in dwelling house”.
In May, Perlis police had arrested the main suspect in the torching of Mohd Asri’s official vehicle, a man known only as Zaini.
The cops had said that both Zaini and Mee are also believed to be behind last year’s assault and robbery involving Perlis Islamic affairs Department (Jaip) director Hazman Hassan.
Hazman was reportedly injured on his left cheek after he was slashed with a samurai sword during a robbery at his house in Kangar last September.
The cops had said that Zaini is responsible for paying Mee in both cases.
