Wan Ji hopes to befriend prison warden who assaulted him
Preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin hopes to befriend a man, supposedly a warden, who assaulted him at the Kajang prison last week.
That was what he expressed during a meeting with the officer of the Prisons Department who is investigating the case.
Wan Ji, who was sent to prison on July 9 after he was sentenced to a year's imprisonment on the charge of insulting royalty.
He said that a warden had assaulted him during his first few hours there.
Wan Ji was released after two days after his lawyers formally filed for a stay on his sentence.
In a Facebook post today, Wan Ji said he had forgiven the warden.
"I have many times advised that any action taken against him must not result in him being sacked.
"If possible, a warning should suffice to ensure that he doesn't repeat the same mistake with other prisoners.
"Personally, I have forgiven him and there is not an iota of ill-feeling towards him. I hope one day we become friends," he said.
Wan Ji also uploaded a picture of him in the meeting with Prisons Department officer Ahmad Shahrul Md Nasir.
Wan Ji had revealed details of the assault on July 14 after being released.
He said a warden asked him to remove his glasses before punching him thrice after finding out who he was.
"When I went in, I was asked to remove my clothes leaving only pants on in order to have my head and facial hair shaved.
"There was one person who spoke in a Kelantanese dialect who he had his face covered and was wearing a warden's uniform.
"He asked me for my name and I said 'Wan Ji'. He then asked me to take off my glasses and then bam, bam, he gave it to me three times.
"I was wondering what I had done wrong while the other wardens just laughed," he said during a gathering which was recorded on video.
