The government has managed to recover RM925.1 million of misappropriated 1MDB-related funds as of July 11, 2019.

This was revealed by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (above) in a written parliamentary reply responding to Nibong Tebal MP Mansor Othman.

The figure RM925.1 million also includes the RM6.1 million returned to Yayasan 1MDB, Lim said.

“The process to recover 1MDB funds which were misappropriated is underway, and it is a complicated and lengthy process which could take years.

“This is because it not only involves cooperation between local agencies with various foreign agencies from all sorts of countries, but it also involves the legal process in the courts of foreign countries.

“The government cannot detail the next steps that will be taken because it involves investigation and legal action,” Lim said in the written parliamentary reply.

However, he stressed that the government will continue to work hard through the Finance Minister, Attorney-General’s Chambers and other authorities to recover all the 1MDB funds which have been misappropriated and bring justice to the criminals who committed this kleptocracy.
