Sports Ministry to check on claims that 13 stadiums are not safe

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is to seek clarification about claims that 13 stadiums in the country have not been issued a code compliance certificate (CCC).

The ministry would need to gather more information before it could take the necessary action to resolve the problem, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong (photo, above) said.

“We need to look into the matter first with the management of the respective stadiums, as well as with the fire department about what happened,” he told reporters in Temerloh today after the closing of the 2019 Malaysian Silat Cekak Harimau Open at Dewan Tun Razak.

Local media today reported that 13 stadiums around the country were deemed ‘unsafe’ because they did not have a CCC, otherwise known as a certificate of fitness (CF).

The report quoted the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department’s fire safety division building safety certification section chief Zamri Che Din as saying that the buildings were over 20 years old, and had failed to comply with safety features pertaining to the CCC.

Zamri said the CCC was important to ensure that a building had the optimum set of safety features, including in terms of wiring, security exits and early fire prevention.
