Abu Kassim: Political funding law to be tabled in Oct
A law to regulate political financing is expected to be tabled at next month's Parliament session said National Centre for Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption (GIACC) director-general Abu Kassim Mohamed.
The Star cited Abu Kassim as saying a law to establish an ombudsman could also be tabled as part of efforts to make Malaysia corruption-free.
However, no details were given as to how the act would look like.
In January, Abu Kassim had said that political parties would have to disclose all sources of funding, including donations, and there would be punitive action if this was not adhered to.
A law on political funding was first proposed in 2015, after the 1MDB scandal and allegations that Najib received US$681 million into his personal accounts.
However, the BN-era bill was never brought to Parliament.
Meanwhile, Abu Kassim said the bill on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) may also be passed in October.
The IPCMC bill was tabled in July but has not been debated yet.
The next Parliament session will last from Oct 7 until Dec 5.
At present, the first four days and the last four days of the coming Parliament session have been set aside for government business while the rest have been fixed for the debate on Budget 2020.
