Suspected robber using taser on victims arrested in Lunas
A man who has allegedly been involved in various criminal activities, including robberies using a taser, was arrested by police in a raid at a house in Lunas, Kedah yesterday.
Seberang Perai Tengah District police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the 32-year-old man was arrested at about 4.30 am following surveillance carried out by the police since the beginning of the month.
"On Sept 2, the police received a report of a robbery involving a female college student and two of her friends, who lost about RM2,500, and were left injured after being tased.
"In the 1pm incident, they had just finished prayers at the St Anne's church before being approached by a man speaking in a foreign language, who asked about directions," he said in Bukit Mertajam today.
He said the man followed the three women in their 20s to the hillside behind the church before spraying some liquid into one of the victims’ eyes.
Nik Ros Azhan said the man then grabbed another victim by the neck before placing the taser to her neck, but another victim intercepted by hitting the suspect with an umbrella.
"The victims then ran down the hill, still pursued by the suspect, before the man seized one of the victims' bag which contained an iPhone 7 Plus phone, identification card, driver's license, credit and debit cards, and RM500 in cash," he said..
He said following the arrest of the unemployed man, the police seized a taser, a motorcycle, walkie talkie, helmet and backpack.
The police believe the man had been involved in criminal activities around SPT and Lunas for the past few months, and his modus operadi was to injure victims using the taser before running off with their valuables.
The suspect, who was also found positive for drugs, has seven past criminal records, and is under remand for seven days under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code.
