Falling tree kills woman at UM entrance
A falling tree has killed a woman at University of Malaya’s main entrance today, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.
According to the department, its Kuala Lumpur operations centre had received a distress call at 5.31pm.
Eight firefighters from the Seputeh and Pantai fire stations were dispatched to the scene, arriving about 13 minutes later.
The response team comprised a light fire rescue tender and an emergency medical response service.
“Upon arrival, a female adult victim was found pinned beneath a tree in front of University of Malaya’s main entrance.
“Paramedics from the University of Malaya Medical Centre confirmed the victim had died on the scene,” the department said in a statement.
It said the victim’s identity has yet to be ascertained and the matter is handed to the police for further action.
In addition, the Fire Department said the same tree had also damaged three cars nearby.
