No decision on Salleh's bid to join PKR yet, says Anwar
PKR leadership has not decided whether to accept former BN minister Salleh Said Keruak as a party member, said Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president told reporters that while some in the party had signalled their approval, the party’s central leaders would still have to obtain feedback from grassroots leadership in Sabah.
"It has yet to be brought up (for approval). We discuss but we always ask the divisions, state level... There are those who agree, and some have their own views on the matter, but we will listen to all," Anwar said.
The Port Dickson MP spoke to reporters after he delivered the keynote address at a nation-building seminar in Kajang today.
On Oct 9, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said a decision would be made regarding Salleh's application to join the party in a PKR political bureau meeting on Oct 18.
He confirmed that the partu had received an online application filed by Salleh, a former communications and multimedia minister who unsuccessfully contested the Kota Belud parliamentary seat last year.
Meanwhile, commenting on PAS's suggestion that the government should ban DAP, Anwar said the Islamist party was still using old ways of thinking.
"I think PAS still carries old thinking, calling for bans...that is old politics.
"Now, if we start teaching the government that holds power to start banning (political) parties, that is dangerous, including to PAS. So, don't."
The suggestion was made by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who in a statement yesterday called for DAP to be banned.
According to the Kubang Kerian MP, there was reason to believe that DAP is becoming more dangerous to the country's politics.
