Harapan the best formula for Sarawak - Mat Sabu
The coalition of four political parties under Pakatan Harapan is the best choice to govern Sarawak when it holds its upcoming state election, said Amanah President Mohamad Sabu.
He said it was because Harapan, which comprises PKR, DAP, Bersatu and Amanah, represented the various races of the people in the country.
Mohamad, who is also Defence Minister, said the confidence of the Sarawakians in Harapan had increased tremendously after it took over the federal government in the last general election.
Speaking at an Amanah dinner event in Sibu last night, Mohamad said Amanah was among Harapan component parties which received encouraging responses from Sarawak voters in the previous state election.
"In the first test for Amanah, even though we were not even one-year-old then, we contested in 13 state seats mainly in the rural areas as we didn't want BN to win uncontested. Although we lost in all seats, we didn't lose our deposits in some of the contested areas.
"We also received strong support in the parliamentary seats we contested in the last GE. For next year's state election, God willing, Amanah and Harapan will take over Sarawak’s administration,” he said.
During another event in Malacca today, Mohamad said that Harapan does not exploit anyone or any party in tackling the many challenges as a government.
The Defence Minister also said the parties within the coalition has enjoyed close ties which has seen it through several issues relating to the rakyat, and this will continue right up to GE15.
“Any issue and differences in views are resolved in our meetings, whether at the Harapan Supreme Council meeting or the cabinet, and when the Prime Minister (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) makes an announcement, that would have been our joint decision.
“It (the collaboration) is not difficult, just the usual differences in opinions, and in the end, a joint decision is made. I am confident that this collaboration will ensure success for Harapan in the GE15 as we have begun to ‘deliver' to the rakyat," he told reporters in Malacca.
In his speech at the Malacca Amanah convention, Mohamad said in Malaysia, there has to be a strong coalition between parties of all races and urged the rakyat to support the coalition and leaders who can look after its interests regardless of race.
He said the rakyat, including members of Amanah, should not be quick to believe the lies of the opposition, especially comments which are racist.
Mohamad also reminded the public to show their appreciation to members of the armed forces who ensured peace in the country as without their sacrifices, the people would not be able to enjoy a comfortable life.
