Show support and loyalty at National Congress, PKR delegates urged
Five PKR Youth excos have urged all delegates to attend and support the party's official National Congress to be held in Malacca amid speculation that there might be a 'parallel' congress organised by PKR deputy president Azmin Ali in Kuala Lumpur.
"As the leaders of PKR Youth, we call upon all delegates and observers to attend (the congress) together to rejuvenate the determination and idealism of the fight which we sowed with the sweat and tears of the rakyat 20 years ago.
"The national congress is the official medium to gather the various party activists. It is the official channel for us to interact together with the leaders to express the rakyat's voices.
"Our attendance at this congress is a manifestation that we are still loyal in carrying out the reformation and justice agenda for the rakyat," five PKR Youth exco members in a statement today.
The five - S Sarawanan, Mohd Saifullah Mohd Zulkifli, Khairul Anuar Musa, Muhamad Aiman Aizuddin Md Husin and Dr Ahmad Kusyairi Khalid - were elected to their positions in the last party election and are believed to be aligned with Azmin's faction.
'Important to prove unity in the party'
In their statement, they said that the attendance of the various delegates to the congress in Malacca from Dec 5 to 8 is important to strengthen the resolve as well as prove the unity within the party to realise the reformation agenda they have fought for since 1998.
"This congress in Malacca will evaluate the performance, the loyalty and the commitment of the party leadership, which was given the mandate by the people in the 14th general election," they said.
Word has been going around that a group aligned to Azmin plans to hold their own congress on the same day as the party’s national congress.
Since then, various PKR leaders, such as PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and PKR advisory council chairperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, have said there will only be one official party congress, the one in Malacca, and other meetings do not represent the party.
PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution has also dismissed claims that a separate congress would be held in Kuala Lumpur.
