PKR Youth leader wants Anwar to state stand on sex video implicating Azmin
PKR Youth vice-chief Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus said party president Anwar Ibrahim should explain his stand on the sex video implicating PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said this after PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin alleged that Anwar had tried to convince her that the man in the video was really Azmin.
"Zuraida's sharing about the president's position on the sex video should be addressed by the president.
"Is it true the president believes (that the video is authentic)? This requires an explanation from the president," said Nazree (above) in a statement.
Azmin and his allies have maintained that the video is an attempt to destroy his political career.
Azmin, during a dinner last Sunday, had expressed disappointment, stating that he had defended Anwar against sex allegations against the latter through thick and thin but did not enjoy such support when he was hit by a similar allegation.
At the same event, Azmin's right-hand woman Zuraida, launched a broadside against Anwar's allies, calling some of his supporters' "snot-nosed kids", PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution "useless" and then declaring that she was ready to be sacked from the party.
Following this, several leaders, including PKR information chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, have called for disciplinary action against Zuraida who is housing and local government minister.
However, Nazree defended Zuraida, stating that the PKR vice-president's criticisms had a basis.
He said the PKR congress in Malacca last week could have been used to unite the party but had instead divided the party.
Azmin's allies had boycotted the last two days of the congress, citing verbal attacks against them which they claim were further egged on by Anwar.
"The views put forward by Zuraida have merits. The conflict in the party, which started since the last party election, plus administration and congress issues would not have escalated if top party leaders had engaged in a mutually-agreed dialogue.
Meanwhile, Wanita PKR information chief Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah also came to Zuraida's defence.
Syarul Ema slammed Shamsul for suggesting disciplinary action against Zuraida, accusing him of trying to worsen the situation.
She also blamed Shamsul for the issues at the PKR congress which led to an escalation of tensions between the two feuding factions in the party.
"Shamsul is unqualified to issue statements against Zuraida if he is unable to even fulfil minor responsibilities," she said.
Syarul Ema said the issue should be resolved between the party president, deputy president and vice-presidents without interference from other quarters.
In a statement responding to Nazree, fellow PKR Youth vice-chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman said Anwar need not explain himself over the sex video.
"Instead the one who should come forward to give an explanation, defend himself, and respond to slander is the leader who is involved (in the sex video)," he said.
