A traffic police officer getting soaked in rainwater to help clear clogged waterways at a flooded road has earned praise from netizens.

A video of the incident along Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur was uploaded by the Royal Malaysian Police's official Instagram account.

"Congratulations to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) for assisting in removing solid waste stuck along the drain near Jalan Raja Chulan due to heavy rain last night," it said.

"Thank you, brother police," said Instagram user nasyrulridzuan.

"Your good deeds will be remembered," added another user myatim.

However, other users questioned the role of the local council in keeping the waterways clear.

"Congratulations police. But where is the contractor which received the contract to clear rubbish?" said mohdbashah.

"Isn't the local council supposed to be overseeing this?" added ciktips.

The Klang Valley has seen flash floods in recent days due to heavy downpour.

Heavy rains from the monsoon season have also caused flooding in several states including the east coast, displacing more than 2,000 people.
