Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has denied reports claiming that one of his aides was among those detained for alleged drug abuse.

In a statement this evening, the Bersatu president said the person accused of being his special officer was actually a staff with the party headquarters.

“I have been informed of the arrests of YB Adhif Syan (Abdullah) and several other individuals during a police raid yesterday.

“I will not interfere in this case and the authorities must take action according to the law,” he added.

This morning, Adhif Syan, who is also Selangor Bersatu Youth chief, denied he was arrested and described such claims as an attempt to sabotage him ahead of the party polls.

"I was at home. The time, date, location (of the alleged arrest). I don't know where they picked it up from," he told Malaysiakini in reference to a viral social media post on the matter.

The viral post alleged that Adhif Syan was detained with 10 others, including officers to several high-ranking government officials at a nightclub in Damansara in the wee hours of the morning.

However, Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari later confirmed the arrest.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he would suspend a ministry officer who was apprehended during the raid.

The Bersatu Youth chief stressed that nobody is above the law regardless of their position or status.

In a related development, PKR Youth's disciplinary bureau said it takes cognisance of the claim that a PKR Youth exco member was also detained.

“The bureau views this matter seriously and will check if there was a breach of ethics, party constitution and rules with regard to this case while waiting for a statement from the police.

“The bureau is committed to ensuring that none of the Youth members is involved in criminal activities,” added its chairperson P Aravindran.

Inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador and his directors are currently holding a press conference at the federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Contacted earlier, federal anti-narcotics director Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd told Malaysiakini that he would let the IGP comment on the case.
