CORONAVIRUS | Sarawak no longer requires travellers or Malaysians arriving from Singapore to undergo a 14-day self-quarantine at home.

Instead, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) advised arrivals to follow precautionary guidelines stipulated by the Sarawak Health Department.

According to portal Borneo Post Online, the committee stressed that those exposed to Covid-19 infected areas - as the disease is now officially named - should still remain at home.

“Visitors (including Sarawakians) who fall sick during their visit must seek immediate medical treatment from designated government hospitals.

“These hospitals can be reached at their hotlines as follows, 082-443248 (Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, Sarawak), 082-276666 (Sarawak General Hospital), 085-420033 (Miri Hospital), 086-255899 (Bintulu Hospital) and 084-343333 (Sibu Hospital),” the JPBN was quoted saying.

The state’s self-imposed quarantine requirement was announced two days ago in a bid to prevent the spread of the disease.

It was reported yesterday that a Canadian tourist who arrived at Mulu Airport recently was among seven new suspected cases of the disease.

To date, Malaysia has identified 18 Covid-19 cases of which three have since recovered.

Over 20 countries are affected although China - the epicentre of the outbreak - remains the worse hit with over 44,000 sickened and 1,100 recorded deaths.
