Hospitals in Wuhan hold birthday parties for coronavirus patients
CORONAVIRUS | Birthday parties for patients were held in temporary hospitals of the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.
To cheer up patients infected with the virus who have stayed there for over ten days, medical workers secretly organised birthday parties for those born in February. They gave the patients birthday cakes and sang "Happy birthday" for the celebration.
The surprise moved many and some even burst into tears.
"The medical teams have come from across the country to help and build Wuhan and help us overcome difficulties. I am touched by this. They are our strong support," a patient said.
Patients in temporary hospitals said they are grateful for what the medical staff have done.
"I want to give the cake to medical workers, but they have no time to eat. My birthday wish is that our medical workers can stay healthy and win this battle," a patient said.
The city has converted existing public venues, including the Hongshan Gymnasium and the Wuhan International Conference and Exhibition Center, into temporary hospitals to meet the needs of infected patients with mild symptoms. It is building and expanding another ten such hospitals that will provide 11,465 beds.
