Cops revive Yusoff Rawther assault case, summon Anwar’s aide
Police have summoned an aide of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to assist in a fresh probe into the alleged assault of Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.
Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak (above) confirmed with Malaysiakini that he had received a call from the police to present himself at Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.
“Yes, (they) called yesterday [...] I’ll be going in on Monday,” he said in a brief text when contacted.
This comes following a report by news portal Free Malaysia Today that the Attorney-General’s Chambers has reopened an investigation into a report lodged against Farhash last year.
Quoting a source, the portal speculated there were “concerns” that the outcome of the earlier case could have been influenced by certain political figures.
As such, the source said the latest investigations was a “top priority” and that Yusoff, who claimed to be Anwar’s former research assistant, had already been called in to give his statement.
“(Attorney-General) Tommy Thomas wants the investigation papers to be submitted in Putrajaya today, without delay,” the source reportedly told FMT.
FMT reported today the case against Farhash was being investigated under Section 506 and Section 323 of the Penal Code which pertains to criminal intimidation and causing hurt.
Yusoff had claimed that Farhash had assaulted him at Anwar’s office in Bukit Gasing in May 2019. Yusoff later filed a civil suit against Farhash and Anwar’s press-secretary Tunku Nashrul Tunku Abaidah last September. The duo denied wrongdoing.
Both Farhash and Tunku Nashrul recently lost their bid to have several paragraphs expunged from Yusoff’s statement of claim in his suit against them.
When contacted today, Tunku Nashrul said he had not been called in by police.
Last month, Yusoff claimed he was informed by police that there was insufficient evidence to press ahead with charges against Farhash.
Yusoff came into the limelight last year through the allegation of him being assaulted at Anwar’s office and through a Dec 3 press conference where he claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Anwar.
On Jan 14 this year, the Attorney-General’s Chambers announced that no charges would be levelled against Anwar due to a lack of evidence.
On Jan 24, Farhash filed a defamation suit against Yusoff in relation to the Dec 3 press conference.
