Nga denies defection rumours from Perak DAP

This article is 5 years old

Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming has denied rumours that two of his party’s assemblypersons will jump ship to join the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) bloc in Perak.

“It did not happen," Nga (above) was quoted as saying by news portal the Malay Mail Online.

He said this when asked for comments on Malaysiakini's report yesterday that three Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons - one from PKR and two from DAP - were expected to defect and join the new pact.

A Perak state exco member, who declined to be named, had told Malaysiakini that some of his colleagues were ready to pack up their offices after learning that the Harapan coalition no longer has the majority.

"We (Perak Harapan) foresee that at least three other Harapan representatives will 'jump' to the new government," the exco member had said.

The defections were purportedly planned after Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu (photo) said that the state government will follow the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Meanwhile, The Star quoted Perak exco and DAP's Tronoh assemblyperson, Paul Yong, as denying rumours that he was among those who planned to quit the party.

"Who said this? I am still with DAP.

"Rumours are everywhere, but I am still a loyal DAP member, and I will not be leaving DAP to join any other party," he reportedly said outside the Sessions Court in Ipoh today.

"What we need to concentrate now is what will happen to the Perak state government. Talk about me leaving DAP, or me joining another party is not important.

"Until and unless the menteri besar makes any decision, I am still an exco member, and Ngeh (Koo Ham) the speaker," he added.

Separately, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said his party - now rid of the "cartel faction" - will continue with its reform efforts and select leaders who are sincere.

"Rubbish politicians who are willing to sell out are not qualified to run in the next election, as all they are after is power and money, not to fight for rights of voters in Perak," he said in a statement.

Perak Umno has since named its state liaison chief Saarani Mohamad, who is also Kota Tampan assemblyperson, as their candidate to be the new menteri besar replacing Bersatu's Faizal.
