Azam Baki appointed new MACC chief

This article is 4 years old

Azam Baki has been appointed as the new MACC chief commissioner, replacing Latheefa Koya who resigned last week.

Previously, Azam, 57, was the deputy MACC head of operations. His promotion took effect today.

Azam played a key role in MACC's investigations on 1MDB-related matters and led investigations into the Port Klang Free Zone affair.

Latheefa submitted her resignation letter last week - nine months after assuming the post. She said that the decision was her own.

"My intention is to return to my (legal) practice as a human rights advocate," she said.

Azam's appointment as MACC head is the second major appointment undertaken by the new Muhyiddin Yassin administration.

Last week, Muhyiddin appointed Idrus Harun as the new attorney-general, replacing Tommy Thomas, who also resigned after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
