CORONAVIRUS | The 7th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) has deployed more personnel at the three Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complexes (ICQS) along the Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan to enforce the movement control order (MCO).

Its commanding officer, Supt Azhari Nusi, said an additional 86 personnel were now helping the 372 officers and men previously stationed at the Rantau Panjang, Pengkalan Kubur and Bukit Bunga complexes.

"(Tighter) checks are conducted at the entry-exit gates to prevent breaches of the MCO,” he told reporters when met at the Ibrahim Pencen Post in Rantau Panjang today.

"To tighten control at the Malaysia-Thailand border, some 200 personnel are also conducting 24-hour checks at the 88 illegal bases in Rantau Panjang, Jeram Perdah and Pengkalan Kubor.

"We are doing this to prevent people from using the illegal bases as transit points to enter or leave the country,” he said.

GOF checks at the ICQS showed that many Thai nationals in Malaysia and Malaysians in Thailand had returned to their home countries following the implementation of the two-week MCO to curb the spread of Covid-19 on March 18.
