Mystery benefactor donates RM148,000 machine to detect Covid-19
CORONAVIRUS | A big-hearted individual donated a machine worth RM148,000 to the Clinical Research Centre at Sibu Hospital in Sarawak to be used for testing to detect Covid-19.
The donation from the anonymous benefactor was made yesterday, through Sarawak Assistant Minister for Education, Science and Technological Research, Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, who handed over the machine, known as the ‘Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Detection System’, to hospital director Dr Mohamad Ng Siah Huat in a brief ceremony in Sibu.
With the donation, the centre now has two such machines and accordingly, an increased capacity to run Covid-19 detection tests, Annuar said.
The minister, who is also the state assemblyperson for Nangka, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu and Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Islam Sibu would distribute food and daily necessities to about 2,000 residents in Sibu today and tomorrow, in a move to help reduce difficulties encountered by the community in the wake of Covid-19 and the imposition of the government’s movement control order.
