This article is 4 years old

CORONAVIRUS | The public is advised to minimise contact with animals, including pets, as a precaution against Covid-19.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it would be better to avoid close contact with animals.

"What is important now is that we are telling people to try and avoid close contact (with animals).

"Because there is the possibility that when humans have close contact with animals and if it is infected with Covid-19, then the virus may infect humans too.

"We need to take all the necessary precautions to protect ourselves," he added during the daily press conference on Covid-19 in Putrajaya this evening.

Asked about pets whose owners are confirmed positive Covid-19 patients, he said the animals should be referred to the Veterinary Department for medical examination.
