Covid-19: 153 new cases, 3 deaths, 45 percent recovered

CORONAVIRUS | Malaysia today recorded 153 news Covid-19 cases, bringing the total infections to 4,683, according to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He also reported three new deaths, bringing the death toll to 76.

Noor Hisham (photo) said that 113 people have recovered, putting the total recoveries at 2,108 cases or 45 percent of total cases.

This means the number of active Covid-19 cases is at 2,499.

Of the Covid-19 patients under treatment, 66 are in the Intensive Care Unit, down from 72 yesterday.

Of the Covid-19 patients who are in ICU, 37 are on ventilators, down from 38 yesterday. 

Details of the three new reported deaths are as follow:

Patient 4,531 (74th death)

A 54-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney disease. He was treated at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on April 11. He passed away on April 12 at 1.50am.

Patient 3,469 (75th death)

A 90-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. He was treated at Taiping Hospital, Perak on April 1. He passed away on April 12 at 5.23am.

Patient 4,314 (76th death)

A 47-year-old Malaysian woman who had a history of high blood pressure. She was treated at Sarawak General Hospital on April 8. She passed away on April 12 at 7.36am.

"The Health Ministry conveys its condolences to their family members," Noor Hisham told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

All data provided during the daily briefing this evening was up to noon today. New cases, recoveries and deaths after 12pm today will be reported in tomorrow's briefing.

Noor Hisham also reiterated the importance of personal hygiene and social distancing in combating Covid-19.
