CORONAVIRUS | Petronas employees have donated RM6.4 million to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) under a voluntary salary contribution initiative.

The funds would be used for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, especially towards the distribution of essential supplies and personal protective equipment to frontline staff and volunteers, it said in a statement today.

President and group chief executive officer, Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said the initiative received strong support from 9,500 participating staff, commencing with contributions from the Petronas senior management members who had donated 10 percent of their April and May 2020 salaries.

"Our success in overcoming this pandemic requires all of us to show courage, compassion and generosity to others.

“We hope our modest gesture will assist the less fortunate in their hour of need and provide our frontliners with support in fighting Covid-19,” he said.

The salary contribution was in addition to Petronas’ previous contributions towards the fight against the pandemic, which were made via its business operating units and subsidiaries in Malaysia as well as throughout the world, bringing the total to RM37.8 million.
