Boustead Holdings Bhd (Boustead) has appointed Mohamed Khaled Nordin as the company’s non-independent, non-executive chairman, effective May 1, 2020.

In a statement today, Boustead said Mohamed Khaled had previously served as the Johor Menteri Besar from 2013 to 2018 and under his leadership, the state had witnessed a steady growth in its economy.

He had also served as the Johor Corporation Bhd chairperson and the group had successfully implemented several restructuring and turnaround exercises during his tenure, it said.

Prior to his tenure as the Johor Menteri Besar, Mohamed Khaled held positions in various ministries such as Minister of Higher Education (2008 to 2013), Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (2004 to 2008) and as Deputy Minister of Works (1990 to 2004).

It said Mohamed Khaled, who holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya, is a nominee of Boustead’s largest shareholder, the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT).

Boustead managing director Amrin Awaluddin said Mohamed Khaled’s vast experience would certainly strengthen the board, guiding Boustead to improve its way of doing business and increase its prospects over the long term.

"We are confident that the group is in very good hands under his proven leadership," he added.
