Back to double-digits: 31 new Covid-19 cases recorded
- UPDATED 11.55PM | Added Dr Noor Hisham's clarification regarding the 11 imported cases.
CORONAVIRUS | After three days of new cases in the single-digits, the number of new Covid-19 cases re-entered double digits with 31 new cases reported as of noon today.
All 31 cases did not show symptoms, according to the ministry in a separate post on Twitter.
The Health Ministry said of these, 11 involved imported cases, while of the 20 local transmissions, only one involved a Malaysian from a tahfiz school screening in Selangor.
This brings the total number of infected cases in Malaysia to 8,369, with 1,186 active cases.
Of the 19 cases among foreigners, 16 cases are from the Pedas cluster in Negeri Sembilan, and one each from the Kampung Sungai Lui cluster in Selangor; Kuala Lumpur cleaning company clusters, and a construction site in Kuala Lumpur.
All 11 imported cases were from Egypt and were recorded in Malacca where they were initially quarantined.
In a Facebook post at night, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (above) clarified that the 11 patients tested for a second time on June 9 and then released to complete their remaining quarantine period at home.
This is in light of the recovery movement control order beginning on the next day.
When the result turned out to be positive, they were admitted to hospital where they remain in stable condition.
Four were admitted to Tumpat Hospital (Kelantan), four in Sungai Buloh Hospital (Selangor), one in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (Kedah), one in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (Perak), and one in Malacca Hospital.
"All of them have no symptoms and are stable. These cases were admitted to hospital for observation.
"According to World Health Organisation guidelines, confirmed Covid-19 cases who have no symptoms after ten days have no risk of transmission to other people from the day they tested positive," he said.
Earlier today at his daily press conference, Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 51 recoveries were recorded as of mid-day today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,065 or 84.4 percent.
Five positive cases are in the intensive care unit, and none require breathing aid.
No new deaths were recorded, with the death toll remaining at 118 or 1.41 percent of total cases.
Yesterday, Malaysia recorded two cases, the lowest number of new cases recorded since the start of the movement control order (MCO) period on March 18.
