EC chief tells voter to report BN candidate over bribe allegation

This article is 4 years old

SABAH POLLS | The Election Commission (EC) has advised an individual who allegedly received money from a candidate to lodge a report with the MACC.

Election Commission (EC) chief Abdul Ghani Salleh said this when asked about an allegation that BN-Umno's candidate for Melalap, Jamawi Jaafar, was caught on video handing out incentives to voters.

Jamawi had since denied the allegation.

"In relation to electoral offences, we have prepared channels for these cases to be referred to the MACC," he said.

Five complaint centres have been opened for this purpose, he added.

"In this case, the individual has to lodge a report with the authority," said Abdul Ghani.

In the short video clip circulated on social media, Jamawi was seen handing out a note to a female voter.

However, he denied handling out currency notes, pointing to its white colour.

MACC has reportedly received 10 reports since the start of the Sabah state election campaign on Sept 12.

It has also arrested two security forces personnel for allegedly receiving and distributing vote-buying money for a candidate.
