Sabah outbreak to take 3-4 weeks to contain, and other news you may have missed

1. Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it may take three to four weeks to contain the Covid-19 outbreak in Sabah and urged for renewed collaboration between the government, the private sector and NGOs.
2. Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Mohd Noor has tested positive for Covid-19 but will continue to work from his hospital ward.
3. Sources claim there has been no meeting between PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and his Umno counterpart, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to discuss support for the former to form a new government.
4. All schools in Sabah will be closed from today until Oct 25, while schools elsewhere in the country will be closed immediately for seven days if there has been a Covid-19 case without having to wait for a risk assessment by the Health Ministry.
5. The bus driver identified as the index case of the Ramai-Ramai cluster in Sandakan had been ferrying election workers during the recent Sabah state election.
6. Enhanced movement control orders have been enacted in seven more localities in Sabah and the Pokok Sena prison in Kedah.
7. The National Security Council said weddings will be allowed in areas under conditional MCO and guests from outside such areas will also be allowed to attend the ceremony. Meanwhile in the Klang sub-district, a bride shared her story of a ‘last-minute’ wedding as her big day was brought forward.
8. The human rights commissions of Malaysia and Indonesia have called for both countries to collaborate on improving conditions in temporary detention centres in Malaysia following claims of inhumane treatment at such centres.
9. The Malaysian Aids Council has expressed disappointment over Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Mohd Nor's statement linking Aids to “sinful activities”.
10. Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s 1MDB audit tampering trial scheduled on Monday next week has been postponed until the next day, as the former premier is still under quarantine. His criminal breach of trust trial with former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar will be held in September 2021.
