Covid-19: 374 new cases, 3 deaths, S'gor sees spike

COVID-19 | There are 374 new cases of Covid-19 in the country as of this afternoon.

This includes 277 cases from Sabah which also recorded three deaths bringing the national death toll to 155.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said those who died were a 61-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman, and a 51-year-old man.

There were no details on whether they were part of any clusters or close contacts of other patients.

Kedah had 27 new cases, all from the Tembok prison cluster.

Selangor, meanwhile, almost doubled its number of new cases to 44 today, compared to 24 yesterday.

Meanwhile, there were six new clusters discovered nationwide today, four of them in Selangor alone.

The new Selangor clusters are Bah Manggis, Utama, Tasik and Simera.

The Bah Manggis cluster involved a woman from Kuala Langat who tested positive in Tawau, Sabah on Oct 5.

Close contact tracing uncovered another seven positive cases in Kuala Langat. Results for 73 others are pending.

The Utama cluster is in the Gombak and Petaling districts. The index case tested positive on Oct 4 through screening.

There were 10 positive cases in this cluster with 89 still awaiting their test results.

In the Tasik cluster, a woman tested positive after a swab test at the Miri airport in Sarawak.

Contact tracing found nine other positive cases in Petaling, Hulu Langat, and Klang.

The Simera cluster in Selangor also has cases in Pahang and Terengganu.

The index case was detected in Besut, Terengganu on Oct 6, and contact tracing found seven other cases in Kuantan, Pahang, and Petaling, Klang, and Hulu Langat in Selangor.

Test results are pending for 30 individuals in this cluster.

The Bah Puchong cluster - which was sparked by a family visit to a Sabah returnee under quarantine - meanwhile, has six new cases.

Sabah's the new Highway cluster in Kota Belud has 23 positive cases. A total of 36 others tested negative.

In Sarawak, the Putra cluster in Bintulu has five positive cases thus far with test results pending for 50 people.

Other clusters that recorded new cases were Ramai-Ramai (18 cases), Benteng LD (8), Bah Puchong (6), Tanamera (3), Penjara Reman (3) Laut (2), Jalan Meru (2), Benteng PK (1) and Selasih (1).

Overall, 73 patients are in intensive care units with 28 needing ventilators.

There were also 73 recoveries today. Total active Covid-19 cases nationwide are at 4,161.
