Covid-19 (Dec 4): 1,141 new cases, record-high ICU cases
UPDATED 8.03PM | COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 1,141 new Covid-19 cases over the 24-hour period ending noon today.
No new deaths were reported over the period, the first time in over a month.
However, the number of patients requiring intensive care and those requiring mechanical ventilation have both increased.
Leading indicators:
- Active cases: 10,802 ↓ (3 fewer than the previous day)
- Patients in ICU: 129 ↑ (13 more than the previous day, new record)
- Intubated patients: 7 ↑ (7 more than the previous day)
- Deaths: 0 (nil for the first time since Nov 1)
The previous record-high for ICU cases was 122 cases recorded on Dec 2.
The highest number of new cases were reported in the Klang Valley region with 578 cases (50.7 percent).
Sabah and Selangor each recorded 28 percent of the total number of cases in the country, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 22.4 percent of the cases.
About 87.15 percent of the new cases in the Klang Valley could be traced to existing or new clusters, or close contacts, while 12.5 percent were detected through "other screenings", which include screening after developing symptoms, pre-surgery screening, and workplace screening, among others.

Of the 1,141 new cases reported, three cases were imported.
Malacca and Terengganu did not report new cases, while Perlis that was previously a ‘green’ state has reported one case.

The Health Ministry is currently tracking 188 active Covid-19 clusters, of which 49 reported new cases today.
The top three clusters with the greatest number of new cases today are all workplace-related.
The Puteh Lama construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, has recorded 159 new cases for a total of 372 cases.
The Teratai cluster centred on Top Glove factories in Meru, Klang, has recorded 62 new cases, for a total of 6,632 people screened and 5,156 cases detected (Positivity rate = 77.74 percent). One person is under intensive care.
The Damanlela construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur recorded 58 new cases today, for a total of 1,646 cases. There are 3,500 people screened in this cluster so far.
The Health Ministry has also identified eight new clusters.
The Bina Muda construction site cluster involves the Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai, and Kepong districts of Kuala Lumpur. Eleven cases have been detected so far following workplace mass screening.
The Galeri construction site cluster involves Kuala Lumpur’s Lembah Pantai and Cheras districts. The first cases were identified on Dec 2, following workplace mass screening, and 16 cases have been detected so far.
The Bukit Dalam cluster in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, was detected after the index case reported symptoms and tested positive on Nov 30. There are 13 cases reported so far.
The Cempaka cluster in Johor’s Kulai and Kluang districts has 10 cases. It was detected after the index case developed a severe acute respiratory infection and subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 on Dec 2.
The Sungai Cincin cluster spans three states – Batang Padang in Perak, Segamat in Johor, and Klang in Selangor. The cluster was detected after the index case reported symptoms on Dec 1, and 15 cases have been reported so far.
The Huma cluster in Pasir Puteh and Kota Bharu, Kelantan, was identified after the index case tested positive during contact tracing. Twenty cases have been detected as of today.
The Jalan Genting cluster in Kuala Lumpur’s Titiwangsa district and Pahang’s Bentong district has reported 14 cases, after the index case tested positive on Dec 1 after reporting symptoms.
The Atabara cluster in Kuantan and Pekan, Pahang, was detected after the index case tested positive on Dec 2 after reporting symptoms, and five cases have been detected so far.
