Covid-19 (Dec 26): New record high 2,335 cases
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry has reported 2,335 new cases today, a new record high.
The previous record was 2,234 cases on Dec 10.
Today's record number of cases was propelled by a surge of infections in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor.
Leading indicators:
- Active cases: 20,035 ↑ (1,459 more than the previous day)
- Patients in ICU: 108 (unchanged from previous day)
- Intubated patients: 50 ↑ (3 more than the previous day)
- Deaths: 2
The two deaths were:
Patient 100,538 - Malaysian female, 44. Remains brought to the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sabah. Had a history of obesity and dyspepsia.
Patient 101,553 - Malaysian male, 70. Died at the Malacca Hospital. Had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.
Of the new cases, 308 were from prison, lockup, and immigration depot clusters.
A majority of Kuala Lumpur's new case (93 percent) came from clusters and close contact tracing.
In Selangor, 114 new cases were detected through "other screenings". Based on Selangor Health Department data, 39 cases were detected from those with symptoms.
Eight were detected after subjecting themselves to voluntary screening, seven were detected when screened prior to taking up a new job, four detected through pre-departure screening, four through pre-surgery screening and one was detected through pre-university entry screening.

The Health Ministry reported 11 new clusters today.
The Tapak Bina Jalan Seng cluster in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur was first detected yesterday through targeted screening at the construction site. To date, there are 232 positive cases.
The Pagar Siput cluster in Kota Tinggi, Johor has 129 cases to date. The index case was detected on Dec 24.
The Plastik Subang cluster in Petaling and Klang, Selangor has 111 cases to date. Cases in the cluster first tested positive on Dec 23 during screenings at a factory.
The Halban cluster in Kota Bharu, Kelantan has 29 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 23.
The Lis Putih cluster in Barat Daya, Penang has 24 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 7.
The Sentosa Residensi cluster in Timur Laut, Barat Daya, Seberang Perai Utara, and Seberang Perai Tengah, Penang has 18 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 23.
The Seragam Chepa cluster in Kota Bharu, Bachok, and Tumpat, Kelantan has 13 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 22.
The Pagar Bentong cluster in Bentong, Pahang has 13 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 5.
The Jalan Asam cluster in Petaling, and Klang, Selangor has 13 cases to date. The cases were first detected during screening at a factory.
The Sungai Redan cluster in Kluang and Kota Tinggi, Johor has 11 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 23.
The Semambu cluster in Kuantan, Pahang has 11 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 17.
