Now there's 5G on Everest - climbers recall walkie-talkie days
The country's first two climbers to set foot on the peak of Mount Everest over two decades ago, M Magendran and N Mohanadas, communicated with walkie-talkies during their expedition. They had to wait over 10 days to process the photos they took on the world's highest mountain.
Now everything is much faster. Huawei and China Mobile installed two 5G base stations on the mountain last April and climbers can now use their smartphones to directly upload photos and videos while being at an altitude of 6.5km above sea level.
