YOURSAY | What was it they said about politicians heading GLCs

YOURSAY | ‘PN appointed Tajuddin because he is an Umno person. This is PN’s survival strategy.’

LRT3 firms want govt's help as Tajuddin-led Prasarana withholds RM700m payments

Vijay47: Fear of the law and its enforcement on those who run afoul of it has long dissipated. Now, even the pretence of compliance with some minimal standards of integrity is dispensed with and we witness the brazen abuse of authority to serve personal and family avarice.

For those focused on looting the national coffers, they do so in the understandable confidence that running with criminals in power is the guarantee that they would be beyond investigation.

On the rare occasion that they do, police action mysteriously meet a conclusion called NFA (no further action) under the strangest of justification. Be dragged to the courts? Please.

The flavour of recent months is a dish called DNAA (dismissal not amounting to acquittal) only made worse by criminals found guilty of multiple charges being welcomed and feted as heroes and patriots. Guilt is nothing to be ashamed about.

Readers may have missed Malaysiakini’s more informative and damning report on the LRT3-Prasanna conflict. They would be titillated to learn allegations of threats being made by a certain politician to demand certain choice contracts be granted to persons he holds in close favour.

Can we be shocked by the unravelling of the country? Nothing seems out of bounds and those who shout loudest the rallying calls of race and religion are the very ones complicit in the countless crimes. They are least concerned when even institutions supposedly set up to protect faith and race are looted.

Was there any sound over what happened to Tabung Haji, Mara and Felda? Unbelievably, did anyone protest over the defiling of the halal status for an astounding 40 years?

The convenient smoke and mirrors is to turn against the bewildered non-Malays, knowing that the prime minister would be nowhere to be seen. Spin yourself into the most Gordian of webs and the “get out of jail” pass is of course, agama dan bangsa. It still seems to work!

PW Cheng: In spite of so many complaints and much attention given to massive abuse of power and corruption, they are showing no sign of slowing down but continue the shenanigans unabated and in broad daylight and the prime minister is turning a blind eye to all these.

What is going on in this country with all the god-forsaken Perikatan Nasional (PN) politicians?

New Year: Who is going to investigate? MACC? All Tajuddin has to do is withdraw his support and the PN administration would come crumbling down.

So all these accusations and withholdings of payments will be quietly dealt with. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is in no position to assert his authority as he is held to ransom by Umno and their warlords.

Either he gives in to Tajuddin’s (and other senior Umno warlords’) demands or he will have to face the consequences.

YellowKancil0051: Despite this report, PN will not take any action against Prasarana chairperson Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

MACC will be told to stand down and the attorney-general (AG) will say ‘no further action’ even if the anti-corruption commission investigated the case.

With convicts like former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and former minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor still walking free, what else can we expect?

Muhyiddin cannot afford to have his MPs behind bars, not to mention Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi trial is ongoing.

Meanwhile, former finance minister Lim Guan Eng is to go on trial on laughable grounds for alleged corruption in the Penang Undersea Tunnel project for soliciting profits that don’t exist.

In Malaysia nowadays, up is down and down is up.

Mohd Bakri 3: What was it they said a while back about appointing politicians to head GLCs (government-linked companies) and what not? To ensure they drive these entities in line with the government's vision? Is that it?

If so, does it mean the government's vision is to have related parties be sub-contractors and then these sub-cons can further sub-con back to the original sub-con?

Cogito Ergo Sum: PN appointed Tajuddin because he is an Umno person. This is part of PN’s survival strategy.

But the man appointed to head Prasanara wants a quid pro quo in return. And the dominoes start falling as the piper has not been paid his dues.

Dr Raman: All citizens have legal standing to seek redress in courts - both taxpayers who pay and those who should receive due benefits.

We cannot trust politicians anymore. Check and balance through voting every five years does not work because after election, everyone transforms into frogs, not lawmakers.

The law is clear. Pilfering taxpayer money and benefits is a heinous crime. But AG won't act, he has to depend on MACC, police, etc, and you know what happens.

When Parliament appropriates public funds through a supply budget, it is under strict written conditions/instructions that it will be used for the purpose and persons stated.

If only half a welfare benefit reaches the people and the rest siphoned off, then the people who are short-changed can sue. This is basic contract law.

MACC can only do so much. Audit reports get dumped by these very ‘thieves’ in Parliament, so with Public Accounts Committee (PAC) reports.

I hope lawyers here can share their thoughts. I am willing to contribute to a fund for this purpose. As soon as we file this public interest case, we can see the panic, never mind win or lose.

We cannot go on like this, venting our anger case by case, and nobody gives a damn to what we say. Let's focus our energy on this.

Cyclonus: We don't need a virus to kill businesses and economy in Malaysia. We got something better.
