Covid-19 (Jan 5) - 2,027 new cases, 8 deaths
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 2,027 new Covid-19 cases and eight deaths.
The Klang Valley had the most number of new cases (41.5 percent) followed by Johor (21.1 percent) and Sabah (18.9 percent).
Of the 687 new cases reported in Selangor, 144 cases were detected through "other screenings". According to the Selangor Health Department data, another 48 cases were detected among those who reported symptoms but are not yet linked to any active cluster.
Another seven cases involved those suffering from severe acute respiratory infection (Sari) and another eight cases were detected through screenings that were either for pre-employment or pre-hospital warding or procedures.

Deaths
Of the eight new deaths reported, five were in Sabah. The cumulative Covid-19 death toll for Sabah has reached 275 or 54 percent of the national total (509).
Details of the eight victims are as follows:
'Patient 74,182' - male, 74, passed away at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Perak. No known history of illnesses.
'Patient 80,539' - female, 54, passed away at the Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah. No known history of illnesses.
'Patient 93,490' - male, 67, passed away at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sabah.
'Patient 98,898' - male, 78, passed away at the Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah.
'Patient 99,298' - female, 63, body brought to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Selangor. No known history of illnesses.
'Patient 100,486' - male, 62, passed away at the Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah.
'Patient 119,306' - male, 69, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Sabah.
'Patient 114,036' - foreign female, 52, body brought to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Selangor. No known history of illnesses.
Of the 2,027 new cases reported, 16 were imported. A breakdown of the new cases are as follows.
Clusters
The Health Ministry did not hold a press conference today. Its press conferences are typically, but not always, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. RT-PCR capacity and test numbers were unavailable today.
There are 242 active Covid-19 clusters currently, 53 saw new cases.
The highest number of new cases was from the Jalan Perindustrian cluster (200 new cases) involving the Kulai district in Johor. This cluster, classified on Jan 1, involves a workplace.
The second most-active cluster was the Tapak Bina Jalan Desa cluster (116 new cases) involving a construction site, a new cluster involving the Lembah Pantai district in Kuala Lumpur.
In all, the Health Ministry today classified 11 new clusters.
The Jalan Playar and Sri Suria clusters involve factories in the Petaling district of Selangor where 68 and 16 cases respectively have been detected so far.
The Tapak Bina Bukit Semenyih cluster involves a construction site in the Hulu Langat district in Selangor where 17 cases have been detected.
The Bukit Angkat cluster was discovered upon targeted screening of a company in the Hulu Langat district in Selangor where 25 cases have been detected.
The Parit Jamil cluster involves the Muar district in Johor where the index case was diagnosed on Dec 29, 2020 after reporting symptoms. As of today, 612 individuals have been screened and 62 were Covid-19 positive.
The Tombovo cluster involved the Putatan district in Sabah where the index case was diagnosed on Jan 3 after reporting symptoms and 18 cases have been detected so far.
The aforementioned Tapak Bina Jalan Desa cluster involved the screening of 800 individuals and 116 cases detected so far.
The Jalan Raja cluster involves a shopping mall where mass screening was conducted beginning Dec 19, 2020. As of today, 25 cases have been detected across the Cheras, Titiwangsa, and Kepong districts in Kuala Lumpur.
The Langit Selatan cluster involves the Kuantan district in Pahang where the index case was diagnosed on Dec 31, 2020 after reporting symptoms. So far, nine cases have been attributed to this cluster.
The Bah Sayap cluster involves the Miri district in Sarawak where the index case was diagnosed on Dec 31, 2020 after reporting symptoms. There are five cases in this cluster so far.
The Mengkuang cluster involves the Marang and Kuala Nerus districts in Terengganu where the index case was diagnosed on Jan 1 after reporting symptoms. As of today, there are 10 cases in this cluster.
