Covid-19 (Jan 12): 3,309 new cases, 190 in ICU - new records set
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry (MOH) today reported a record-setting 3,309 new Covid-19 cases and 190 patients in intensive care, a day before a large part of the country goes into a movement control order (MCO) lockdown.
Nearly a third of the new cases were reported in Selangor (1,007) of which 12 percent were not detected among targeted groups (clusters, factory or construction workers and close contacts), according to state health department data.
Half of the new cases in Selangor were attributed to the Hulu Langat and Klang districts.
While new cases in Klang are mostly from known clusters, new cases in Hulu Langat do not appear to be driven by any particular clusters but it should be noted that the Kajang mukim (locality) had the highest number of cases detected among those with symptoms from hitherto unknown sources.
Two new clusters were from dialysis centres.
Leading indicators:
- Active cases: 30,390 ↑ (1,836 more than the previous day)
- Patients in ICU: 190 ↑ ( 3 more than the previous day, new record)
- Intubated patients: 83 ↓ (4 less than the previous day)
