Covid-19 (Jan 24): 3,346 new cases, recoveries at record high of 4,427

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,346 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today.

On the flip side, it recorded a new high for recoveries with 4,427 Covid-19 patients cured.

This means the number of total active cases declined for the second consecutive day after 14 days of increase, helping to relieve the stress on the healthcare system.

However, the number of Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit continued to rise.

Leading indicators:

Active cases: 41,677 ↓ (1,092 less than the previous day)

Patients in ICU: 265 ↑ (5 more than the previous day)

Intubated patients: 102 ↓ (1 less than the previous day)

Deaths: 11 ↑ (4 more than the previous day)

The latest fatalities put the death toll at 678. Details are as follows:

Patient 147,822 - Male, 83, passed away at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu [Terengganu]

Patient 171,999 - Male, 91, passed away at the Sibu Hospital [Sarawak]

Patient 172,507 - Male, 60, passed away at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu [Terengganu]

Patient 175,859 - Male, 34, passed away at the Malacca Hospital [Malacca]

Patient 177,586 - Female, 61, passed away at a private medical centre [Selangor]

Patient 179,046 - Male, 85, passed away at the Sultan Ismail Hospital, Johor Bahru [Johor]

Patient 179,047 - Male, 65, passed away at the Sultan Ismail Hospital, Johor Bahru [Johor]

Patient 179,682 - Female, 54, brought in dead at Sibu Hospital [Sarawak]

Patient 179,708 - Female, 36, passed away at the Sibu [Sarawak]

Patient 156,800 - Foreign male, 68, brought in dead at  Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan [Sabah]

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said a total of 348 out of 733 Covid-19 clusters are still active.

However, only 69 of these clusters reported new cases today.

Two clusters (Semambu and Keris Residence) were declared over but another nine clusters have emerged.
