Covid-19 (Feb 7): 3,731 new infections, active cases at new high

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry has reported 3,731 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today.

Of these, eight cases were imported while the remaining 3,723 were locally transmitted.

Selangor recorded 1,606 new Covid-19 cases, the 11th consecutive day where new cases are in the four digits.

Malacca, which broke 300 cases for the first time during the third wave of the pandemic yesterday, continued to record daily cases in a similar region with 313 new infections today.

Deaths


A total of 15 people died from Covid-19 today, bringing the death toll to 872.

Four of the new deaths came from Selangor followed by three each in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, two in Sarawak and one in Penang, Kedah and Johor respectively. All of them were Malaysians.

The youngest victim was an 18-year-old girl who was brought in dead at the Selayang Hospital in Selangor. She had a history of asthma.

The next youngest was a 37-year-old woman with kidney disease. She died at Beaufort Hospital in Sabah.

The remaining 13 fatalities were all above 60 years old.

Clusters

The Health Ministry classified seven new clusters today, including one involving a religious gathering in Teluk Intan, Perak. 

On the flip side, the seven clusters were declared over. The clusters are Pintu Geng, Ehsan Ibol, Persiaran Heights, Langkasuka, Wawasan, Jalan BBN and Texmile.

To date, 441 out of 895 Covid-19 clusters are still active, and 81 of them contributed to new infections today.
