Covid-19 (Feb 20) - 2,461 new cases, spike in Kelantan
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,461 new cases of Covid-19 today and eight deaths.
The number of patients discharged (4,782) continued to outpace the number of new patients for the sixth straight day, leading to 2,329 fewer active cases.
- Active cases: 34,468
- Patients in ICU:207
- Intubated: 91
However, there was a spike in cases in Kelantan which reported 219 more than yesterday.
The increase was due to cases linked to existing clusters (196).
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that the spike was because inmates from the Dungun Correctional Centre in Terengganu - which had just had an enhanced movement control order lifted - were transfered to the Pengkalan Chepa prison in Kelantan.
There were 146 new cases amongst the inmates which have been registered under the Tembok Bukit Besi cluster.
The Tanjung Suria cluster, which has cases in both Selangor and Kelantan, recorded 64 new cases today.
Deaths
Of the eight deaths today, four were from Sarawak followed by one death each in Sabah, Selangor, Kelantan and Perak.
All the deceased were locals.
Two of the victims were aged 81, one of whom was brought dead to the hospital.
The youngest fatality today was 46 years old.
The national death toll now stands at 1,051.
